C of E school is blessed with bricks
from Ibstock
Selection of facing brick and other external materials was particularly important to meet the aspirations of the Planning Authority and local residents.
Wandsworth Council decided to build the new St Cecelia's Church of England secondary school, on the site of a 1927 technical college, following a full economic and operational appraisal of the existing buildings To ensure planning compatibility with surrounding residential building, architects John Pelling and Partners chose a selection of bricks from Ibstock that included Leicester Orange Stock, West Hoathly Medium Multi Stock and Cattybrook Cheddar Red

Step By Step Help Is At Hand With Ibstock
Ibstock has recently launched a new 'Get It Right' guide entitled: 'Steps and Ramps using Clay Bricks and Pavers'.
The architects commented: "The selection of facing brick and other external materials was particularly important to meet the aspirations of the Planning Authority and local residents, within a predominantly suburban landscape of two-storey, semi-detached 1930s' housing".
"Ibstock Brick were consulted, and the brickwork selected from their extensive range to reflect the traditional London Stock brickwork predominant within the area." As well as careful grouping of the building masses and the slated and pitched roofs to complement the surrounding house rooflines, external detailing was used to enliven the facades and echo designs from the neighbouring buildings.
Thus, as well as the West Hoathly Medium Multi Stock for the main areas of brick, extensive plinths to the walls were laid in Leicester Orange Stock.
Cattybrook Cheddar Red was used in standard and special shapes to frame the multi-stock brick on the dwarf walling at the school perimeter and the external steps in the grounds.
Other detailing includes brick piers and pilasters, brick arches and dentillated courses beneath the panels of rendering to some of the second storey.
The school was officially opened by the Archbishop of Canterbury.
