Step By Step Help Is At Hand With Ibstock
Ibstock has recently launched a new 'Get It Right' guide entitled: 'Steps and Ramps using Clay Bricks and Pavers'.
Project architect Steve Harris explains: "The exterior wall construction is one of the many elements contributing to the building's efficiency".
"The interior leaf uses high density blocks which, with the concrete ceiling soffits, ensure a high thermal mass".
"Outside of that we have installed 300mm of mineral wool insulation, and had originally intended to use blocks with a high tech render for the exterior leaf".

Ibstock Introduces Innovative Portfolio
Leading brick manufacturer, Ibstock, has just launched its vibrant new range portfolio.
"We found that, by using Fireborn units instead of the render construction, we could achieve a very pleasing result at a lower installed cost".
"It provides a robust finish, eminently suitable as an urban material, and the buff colour is right for the location".
"It also needs very little maintenance".
The Tomlins Grove development comprises two 2 bedroom flats, one 1 bedroom flat and a studio flat in a four-storey building on an in-fill site.
It is designed to be self-sufficient in electricity with solar panels roofing the conservatories, which are a feature of all the units.
A wind turbine has also been recently added that now means the building is expected to generate as much electricity from within its site boundaries as it uses.
A wood pellet boiler provides domestic hot water and since wood absorbs carbon dioxide as it grows, this can be counted as a near zero impact fuel.
Steve Harris continued: "The super-insulated construction means that no space heating is required while the apartments are occupied".
"Waste heat from electrical equipment such as hi-fis, computers, TVs and white goods such as fridges and ovens provide most of the heat".
"Body heat and solar gain should provide the rest".
"This development shows how even on a tight urban site it is possible to design completely environmentally sustainable housing as a straight forward commercial development".
"The prices achieved for the sale of the apartments were well above local comparables, and the new owners are thrilled with their homes".
"The building recently highly commended at the Housing Design Awards and has been featured in The Evening Standard".
