Sales of commercial boilers above 44kW have taken the total reported by manufacturers to almost 20,000 units in the past 12 months according to ICOM.

In the last twelve months growth in the sales of commercial boilers above 44kW has taken the reported annual total of manufacturers to almost 20,000 units An increase of around 5% pa has followed a period of uncertainty pre and post the revisions of Part L of the Building Regulations, but now with some stability and in anticipation of ongoing construction industry activity some modest growth maybe expected

Leading the way are sales of Condensing Boilers which have experienced a growth rate of 20% in the last year and now account for around 60% of total sales.

Market recognition of the space saving, coupled with the efficiency attributes of condensing wall hung boilers in the 44kW to 110kW range, means that they account for around 71% of the condensing boiler sales and 42% of the total UK sales.

"Whilst the penetration of condensing boilers in the commercial sector has not been at the same pace as the domestic market the trends are clearly toward condensing boilers driven by the climate change agenda in maximising energy savings and the reduction in carbon dioxide emissions", said Ken Percival who is Chairman of the UK Commercial Boiler Group, a sector of ICOM Energy Association.

As a result of the condensing boiler growth the standard efficiency cast iron boiler sector represents less than 40% of the commercial market and continues to decline overall.

The dominant sector within cast iron sales is atmospheric gas boilers which are down 26% in the last year.

However the smaller sector of gas pressure jet, cast iron boilers, has grown by 13% driven by activity in the boiler replacement market.

Correspondingly the cast iron pressure jet oil sector is down by 11% reflecting market concerns in fuel pricing and supply volatility.

These manufacturers reported figures are compiled by an independent source on behalf of the UK Commercial Boiler Group, a sector of ICOM Energy Association, which represents more than 90% of commercial boiler sales within the UK.
