Natural ventilation for Gatwick
passengers
IAC provides natural ventilation for Gatwick passengers.
Following BAA's decision to upgrade pier work at London's Gatwick Airport, IAC of Winchester, were contacted by the design team to assist with the new project Along each pier leading out to parked aircraft are a series of nodes that act as boarding and disembarking areas
IAC's brief was to equip each node (7 in total) with natural ventilation while at the same time protecting passengers from aircraft engine noise.
To achieve this, IAC designed inlet and outlet acoustic ventilators each equipped with LP louvres, MS splitters and dampers.
The outlet ventilator (pictured) was fabricated off-site, as a pre-assembled module, and then craned into position on the roof of the node.
Off-site fabrication is also used by other contractors working for BAA and now at IAC we can confirm that we have successfully adopted this approach with the team.
