The new West Midlands region chairman of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), John Blakemore, is set to focus on collaborative working with co-professionals as a key issue during his year of office John's first event was a debate between civil engineers, architects, town planners and chartered surveyors on the topic can we 'Deliver Multi-disciplinary Working?'

He said: "Modern day working on infrastructure projects is increasingly about collaboration between members of different disciplines".

"There is much to be gained, but potential teething problems too".

"It is crucial that all members find a way of working together with maximum efficiency so we can continue to deliver high quality projects throughout the region".

In the coming year, John also intends to continue to promote the regionalisation of ICE and to engage on behalf of civil engineers with key organisations and decision makers in the region.

John has spent his career working in the public sector and is Assistant Director, Highways for Birmingham City Council, responsible for delivering agreed plans and projects relating to a range of street services.

He has been Vice Chairman of ICE West Midlands, a member of ICE Council and sits on the Regional Executive Board.
