iLight introduces three professional development seminars for RIBA members.

iLight is now an approved provider of continuing professional development (CPD) courses for the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).

The first of three new seminars developed by the British intelligent lighting control specialists is entitled Lighting Control - Why? It explains how lighting control and the use of different light sources can enhance the designed space.

This introductory course outlines how architects can enhance the spaces they design with the use of programmed lighting 'scenes' or moods.

Architects and specifiers will also learn about the energy saving advantages of such systems.

A grounding in the different types of light sources available is also provided.

iLight's two other seminars are more technical in nature.

The first, Lighting Management and Office Lighting Control, covers the technical and aesthetic aspects of controlling lighting in offices.

Topics include the energy savings possible with such systems and the variety of dimming technologies available.

An understanding of how sensors can be used to automate the building's environment is also presented.

The third seminar commences with a brief overview of lighting control, and offers an understanding of the different market segments.

Integration of lighting control systems in commercial applications is covered, followed by integration with audiovisual and entertainment systems.

The benefits of linking lighting control with HVAC and security systems are also outlined.

"The seminars will give RIBA's construction, design and facilities professionals an introduction to the potential of today's lighting controls in enhancing the working and living environment," said iLight's Merlin Milner, who devised the programmes.

"We are providing three seminars, since lighting control is too large a topic to condense into a single presentation.
