Architecture Pavilion at Interbuild 2006

Finnforest Merk will be the company behind Will Alsop's intriguing design for the Architecture Pavilion at Interbuild 2006 at the NEC.

Finnforest Merk will be the company behind Will Alsop's intriguing design for the Architecture Pavilion when Interbuild 2006 takes place at the NEC from April 23-27 The eye-catching pavilion will be one of the main features in the structural section and Finnforest, which supplies wood products, systems and services to the architecture and construction industries, will supply all the timber materials for the pavilion

No stranger to working with renowned architects, Finnforest supplied the wood for Alvaro Siza and Eduardo Souto de Moura's designs for the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion in 2005.

Designed by Alsop and Julia Feix, the Pavilion will be constructed of three conventional walls.

The Finnforest feature wall consists of interlocking curved timber sheets meaning the sinuous structure will appear at first as an entangled wave of slender beams.

The Pavilion will be aimed especially at architects, specifiers and construction professionals.

Warren Dudding, Marketing Manager for Finnforest Merk, said: "This is a remarkable feat of design, in terms of its unusual conception - it really challenges the perception of wood as a structural material, how it can be used and what it can do." Julia Feix of Alsop Architects said: "The wall appears slender and delicate at first, yet it is self supportive and designed with the intention that visitors can interact with the structure - walking through it and under it, even sitting on it." Said Interbuild 2006 Event Director Gordon Thomas: "Time is precious for working architects and as a profession, they are notoriously reluctant to leave the office and attend trade events".

""But almost 3,000 architects attended the 2004 show and we are determined to tempt them back by putting together a Pavilion package that will be of real value. Request a free brochure from Interbuild - The Building Show ...

"By covering the entire building process and everything that relates to it, the vast majority of Interbuild will be of considerable interest to architects and the Pavilion will be an ideal starting point from which they can plan and explore our exhibition halls.".
