Eco-Mods house pod to be showcased at Interbuild
Eco-Mods has confirmed that it will be showcasing its innovative House Pod at Interbuild this year, which will form a central part of the event's showpiece attraction, Sustainability Street.
The House Pod is manufactured entirely offsite in a quality controlled factory environment and delivered to site pre-finished, complete with appliances, fixtures and fittings.
The Pods can be delivered on a 'Just in Time' basis and assembled in most weather conditions, minimising time on-site.
Requiring only external finishing and a roof, the affordable home is ready for occupation within hours.
As the House Pod is manufactured off site, costs are fixed and kept low through economies of scale.
As such, the house is kept affordable with no compromise on quality.
The House Pod is Building Regulation compliant and can currently meet levels 3, 4 and 5 of the Code for Sustainable Homes.
The quality and performance of all House Pods is assured to ISO 9001 standards.
It is also environmentally friendly, because it requires fewer deliveries of materials to site, which minimises pollution and reduces the carbon footprint of the house.
In summary it meets, and in some cases exceeds, all the criteria laid down for the delivery of affordable homes.
Malcolm Ball, Technical Manager at Eco-Mods, commented: "Following the recent budget announcement, which outlined measures such as the investment of GBP500m to restart frozen building projects, affordable homes such as the House Pod have never been more important".
"Many people make claims about being able to deliver such properties, but Eco-Mod has actually built a house, had it independently tested to ensure it complies with building regulations and is therefore 100% confident that it can deliver a product and not just an idea".
"This is why we have chosen to bring the Pod to Interbuild".
"By positioning it within Sustainability Street, Eco Mod will have a unique opportunity to let specifiers experience the House Pod first hand and understand its innovative approach to the delivery of affordable homes".
The weather proof structures are erected within a few hours of arriving onsite and all units come complete with fitted kitchen, bathroom, heating systems, windows, doors and decoration.
Pods can also be easily developed into student or hotel accommodation.
The House Pod will be one of a number of exemplar buildings within Sustainability Street.
Themed around residential, retail, education and healthcare, visitors will be able to see, touch and test contemporary sustainable products at their best.
Sustainability Street is supported by BRE, Advantage West Midlands and Architects Journal.
