An Institute of Acoustics one-day seminar on the Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 1 December 2005 at the Health and Safety Laboratory, Buxton, Derbyshire Following the success of the Institute's 'Let's Get Physical' meeting on 1 July and the interest expressed, the Institute of Acoustics will be organising another one-day seminar on the subject of the Control of Vibration at Work Regulations, implementing the Physical Agents Directive in the UK, that came into force in July 2005

Latest developments in noise research
The latest developments in Noise research will be discussed at a meeting on 24 May organised by the The Institute of Acoustics' Environmental Noise Group in conjunction with DEFRA.
The 'Let's Get Physical' seminar, organised by the Institute of Acoustics' Measurement and Instrument Group, will take place on 1 December 2005 at the Health and Safety Laboratory in Buxton.
The meeting will be of interest to all Health and Safety Professionals, insurers and members of the legal profession.
Speakers from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the insurance industry will give their view of the implications of the regulations for employers and industry.
Having set the scene speakers from industry and the Health and Safety Laboratory will then concentrate on practical aspects of hand-arm and whole-body vibration exposure; including measurement, control and health surveillance.
There will also be an opportunity to hear about the role of measurement in the assessment of WBV exposure and the assessment of other ergonomic factors associated with back pain, as well as whole body vibration in vehicles and the control of whole body vibration exposure.
The Health and Safety Laboratory, the UK's largest health and safety research and test laboratory will be hosting the seminar.
The laboratory has contributed to the preparation of the new regulations and the HSE guidance.
