KMT Waterjet Improves Manufacturing
Capability
To double manufacturing capacity of interior and exterior vehicle components, Thompson Plastics Group have purchased a KMT Streamline intensifier equipped waterjet trimming machine.
As part of a £700k investment to double manufacturing capacity of interior and exterior vehicle components, the Thompson Plastics Group purchased a KMT Streamline intensifier equipped waterjet trimming machine in order to gain several advantages over its more traditional routing machines The Belotti waterjet cutting machine, supplied by ESU Cannon of Glossop, Derbyshire is equipped with an KMT Steamline SL-IV 50 HP Intensifier that produces a working pressure of 3,800 bar (55,000 psi)

Waterjet cutting improved speed and productivity
KMT ultra-high-pressure pump upgrades waterjet cutting system to improve speed and productivity.
CNC controlled, with a bed size of 2.4m x 1.6m, the 5-axis machine is used by Thompson Plastics to cut a variety of materials between 2-20mm thick including glass filled polypropylene and long fibre polyurethane (LFPUR).
The versatility of the machine allows it to be used for batch production of a wide range of components of varying thicknesses, composition and profiles, in batch sizes between 20 and 500.
Production throughput is greatly increased thanks to a turntable with automatic loading that allows parts to be prepared at the same time as cutting is taking place.
When it came to selecting which waterjet machine to purchase, John Watkins had sound reasons for choosing the KMT Streamline equipped Belotti: "The machine represented very good value for money.
The performance is excellent and it has a very similar configuration to a 5-axis router.
This has given us a lot of commonality in machine programming and jigs and fixtures and has made it a lot easier for the operators to learn to operate compared to other robot based systems.".
