Chris Humphries was presented with an Honorary Fellowship of The Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering at the IPHE Centenary Year Luncheon, at the House of Commons.

Chris Humphries, Director General of the City and Guilds of London Institute, was presented with an Honorary Fellowship of The Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering at the IPHE Centenary Year Luncheon, at the House of Commons on 18th December Diners were also given a presentation on 'Low Heat' an ESF funded project carried out by the IPHE in partnership with Pera, the innovation company

This project captures heat from waste water and passes it back into the heating system thereby reducing energy consumption.

Chris Humphries has been the patron of the IPHE during 2006 and has been involved in a number of events to help mark its centenary.

Chris was awarded the CBE for services to training and enterprise in June 1998 and was appointed Director General of City and Guilds in 2001.

He is an acknowledged champion for vocational education in the UK, working to increase the profile and accessibility of learning.

Chris Humphries said it had been an excellent year for the IPHE.

The Centenary Conference and Exhibition had been a huge success.

"I am very grateful to the Institute for this honour, the IPHE and City and Guilds have a long association which I look forward to developing into the future," he said.

He praised 'Low Heat' for its contribution to the environmental agenda and its recognition at the National Energy Efficiency Awards.

He went on to say: "The time is right for the professionals that have looked after the health and safety of the public for centuries, and who are now also addressing the environmental concerns of the planet, to be recognised by Royal Charter".

James Brockenshire, MP for Hornchurch, sponsored the Luncheon.

James follows a long line of MPs from the IPHE headquarters' constituency in being a strong supporter of the Institute and its work.
