Ultracrete Flowpoint enhances Riverside
Walkway
Stone setts along Merthyr Tydfil Riverside Walkway were recently transformed into durable streetscape with Ultracrete Flowpoint BS7533, manufactured by Instarmac Group.
The work formed part of the River Taff Corridor Strategy, which will also improve the town's infrastructure, facilities, transportation and access as a part of a long-term regeneration project The refurbished area, running the length of the River Taff Corridor and up to Merthyr Tydfil town centre, between Penry Street Bridge and the Riverside Walkway, was to be re-laid with natural stone setts some of which needed to be applied at a gradient

Initial contacts 'big dig' assisted by Instarmac
Instarmac's Ultracrete Flowpoint and Ultracrete EPR-9 were finally chosen as part of 'Big Dig' programme for the renewal and regeneration of Liverpool.
Contractor, the Landscape Group, tasked with finding a pointing material that was quick and easy to use, capable of application on a slope with no discoloration, chose Instarmac's Ultracrete Flowpoint, a rapid set flowable grout because of its superior technical and finish qualities.
The product, designed to conform to the strict demands of BS7533 part 12, Pavements constructed with clay, natural stone or concrete pavers, provides exceptional bond strengths, low permeability characteristics, freeze-thaw and environmental erosion resistance.
It is engineered to provide a quick set whilst eliminating the possibility of staining and is able to fill joint widths between 5mm to 50mm and joint depth of 200mm in a single pour.

Council quick off the mark
The rapid set and exceptional bonding qualities of Ultracrete Flowpoint allowed a refurbished area of Cardiff to be re-opened to traffic within 36 hours.
The flowable, rapid setting grout is simply mixed with water on site and facilitates early trafficking.
It is able to accept foot traffic after just one hour and conventional vehicular traffic after 4 hours, when it reaches a compressive strength of 49.6N/mm, a flexural strength of 7.10N/mm, a tensile strength of 3.91N/mm and a bond strength of 1.5N/mm.
Andrew Williams, Contracts Manager at the Landscape Group, believes Instarmac's service as well as product performance were key for the successful completion of the project.
"Instarmac's site support team played a vital part at both the trial stages as well as during application".
"They even recommended an effective way to capture and prevent any excess product entering the river, thus avoiding any implications for the surrounding ecosystem".
Merthyr Tydfil's River Taff Walkway is now completed with both the client, Merthyr Tydfil Council, and the contractor extremely pleased with the final finish.
For Instarmac, the success of the scheme was a major contributing factor in securing participation in the Town Centre Regeneration Project which is currently under way and due for completion in May 2008.
