New technology, which combines a built-in mixer and pump is revolutionising the installation of underfloor heating.

M J Namih of MD IPPEC, and the Technical Officer of UHMA (Underfloor Heating Manufacturer's Association) describes how new technology, which combines a built-in mixer and pump is revolutionising the installation of underfloor heating "There is nothing wrong with mixers

They are needed to reduce the water temperature from the boiler to the floor.

Not all plumbers understand the use of the mixer and often ask why they need an extra pump when connecting UFH systems as there is already one in the boiler.

"Condensing and fully modulating boilers have the ability to supply water at a set temperature and are becoming a much better and more popular option.

We supply increasing numbers of these low water temperature boilers.

By regulating the temperature at say 50 Degrees C for underfloor heating, the boiler can be connected directly to the underfloor heating manifold and there is no need for a mixer and extra pump.

The boiler is able to switch to high water temperature mode when the output is diverted to heat the domestic water in the unvented hot water cylinder.

"IPPEC has been supplying underfloor heating manifolds complete with built-in mixer and pump for many years, but now the systems have been advanced even further and feature a miniature one piece all-in-one manifold mixer and pump.

The new unit is suitable for small areas of underfloor heating such as extensions, conservatories and bathrooms where energy efficient warm water underfloor heating is most desirable.

"The unit connects to the flow and return pipes from the boiler at one end and to one or two UFH circuits at the other end.

A wall or floor thermostat, with or without a timer, is wired to the unit.

The compact nature of the unit allows it to be recessed in a wall or a cabinet and we can supply a recess cabinet, the size of a standard concrete block, with a white plastic cover to enclose the system.

The whole idea of combining both the mixer and pump is set to revolutionise the installation of underfloor heating and we would be happy to demonstrate the benefits to plumbers.".
