Designed to prevent the blade from shattering when under pressure, they have been proven to last up to three times longer in user trials on dry lining, roofing, insulation and flooring.

For many professionals, cutting through difficult materials, such as plasterboard, is all part of a tough job Often, no matter how much effort the tradesman puts in, many blades will not reciprocate their hard work and will blunt or shatter under pressure - that is until now, with everyday labour made easy with the introduction of Irwin's new range of durable utility knives and innovative bi-metal Blue Blades

Irwin's bi-metal Blue Blades have been designed with tradesmen in mind, manufactured with a High Speed Steel edge for greater hardness, providing longer life and blade sharpness.

The blades have been designed to prevent the blade from shattering when under pressure and have been proven to last up to three times longer in user trials on dry lining, roofing, insulation, flooring and many more heavy duty materials.

These virtually unbreakable blades are manufactured from a unique bi-metal material, combining the best of two metals electro-welded together, with the high speed steel cutting edge electron beam welded to a flexible alloy body.

This allows the blade to be far more flexible in use, preventing injury to the user.

To accompany these innovative blades, Irwin has introduced a new range of fixed and retractable blade utility knives, manufactured from lightweight yet hardwearing aluminium.

An ergonomically designed grip provides comfort in use, with soft finger grip panels allowing extra grip without squeezing or tension and a convenient magnet on the inside of the knife holds working blades securely in place.

The Pro-Touch fixed blade knife also features a convenient captive central screw, which requires no tool to open or close the knife.

Health and Safety is the number one priority for Irwin, which is why its bi-metal Blue Blades and knives have been developed to reduce the risk of potential injuries to all tradesmen.

Unlike many alternative products, the bi-metal Blue Blades have been designed to prevent the blade from breaking when under pressure.

Extensive tests have shown that even when the blade is forced to bend, which would usually result in many blades shattering, it will not splinter under the pressure and will remain intact.

Andrew Kenny, group product manager for Irwin commented: "The bulk of Irwin's bi-metal Blue Blade is made from spring steel, which can resist pressure applied from the side without snapping.

Any tradesman who has ever received a nasty cut will now know that the safest blade in use is generally a sharp one.

It takes less effort to cut and therefore, greater control can be maintained, meaning fingers will remain in place! To further enhance safety, our bi-metal Blue Blades are supplied in purpose designed dispensers, allowing safe storage and easy access to the blades.

"Furthermore, the Irwin bi-metal Blue Blades last up to three times longer than competitor blades and guarantee more cuts per blade, ensuring tradesmen save both time and money." The Irwin utility knives start from £4.17 (RRP).

Blades are available in packs of 5, 10, 50 or 100 and start from £1.54 (RRP).

All products are available from leading tool stockists and merchants.
