Irwin's Jack 880 handsaw, one of the most popular handsaws amongst professional tradesmen all over the UK, is now faster and more efficient than ever before, but at no extra cost.

1st May 2008 sees the eagerly awaited launch of the next generation of Jack 880 saws - the Irwin Jack Universal 880 Triple Ground, featuring a range of improved benefits that have led to a 25% increase in cutting speed1 With sales in excess of one million in the UK each year, the Jack 880 with its distinctive orange and black handle, is the saw of choice amongst professional tradesmen due to its versatility and excellent value for money

The next generation of Jack 880 saws will retain the key features that users have come to know and love, but now offer a significant improvement in performance.

The teeth on the new Jack 880 range have the advantage of triple edge grinding, resulting in an aggressive configuration that cuts both along and across the grains of wood.

Triple edge grinding also enables the saw to cut on both push and pull strokes, allowing for fast and efficient cutting of timber and larger work pieces.

This makes it 25% faster1 than the old Jack 880, which featured double ground teeth.

Irwin's UK Marketing Director Graham Bremer explains: "Our research in the UK market and across Europe has highlighted that users see the 'speed of cut' and 'ease of cut' as their two main purchasing factors in a universal saw".

"By incorporating the key learnings from our research, whilst utilising our existing best-in-class elements, we set out to create a new Jack 880 that kept the old product's characteristics, but improved its performance when cutting through a wide variety of materials".

"The new Irwin Jack 880 is the first in a new generation of Universal saws".

The new Irwin Jack 880 range, available in either 20" or 22" blade lengths, provides the end user with a saw for all materials: the ever popular Universal - for all round versatility and cutting performance in cutting softwoods and board materials; Coarse - suitable for cutting laminated boards, plasterboard, green wood and fast ripping cuts (this saw also features innovative deep gullets for enhanced performance through greater removal of waste); Fine - ideal for cutting hardwood and for accurate finishing cuts; and Super Fine (Tenon, Veneer and Toolbox) - ideal for PVC and mitre box work.

The entire range has 0.85mm blades that are made from high quality British C75 steel to ensure maximum stability and power transfer, whilst also featuring Hard Point teeth, which stay sharp six to eight times longer than non-hardened teeth.

A water based lacquer also provides four times better rust protection for the blade than traditional lacquer.

Designed with comfort in mind, the handle on the Jack 880 saw is made from light weight materials which are ultrasonically welded to the saw for a tough and durable finish.

Generally regarded as the 'best in class' handle in its category, the ergonomic shape provides just the right amount of grip and support for a winning cut.

The new Irwin Jack Universal 880 Triple Ground range is priced from GBP10.27 including VAT and will be available from all good tool stockists and builders merchants from 1st May 2008.
