ISG to construct Nido Spitalfields, a new-build 33-storey student accommodation development on Middlesex Street in the City of London.

The mixed-use scheme has been developed by Nido Student Living, a specialist student accommodation firm This scheme closely follows the first phase of the Nido Student Living masterplan in London, which has seen the redevelopment of two former NatWest Bank office blocks close to Kings Cross Station, providing accommodation for 846 students

This latest phase sees ISG construct an impressive concrete frame and part steel frame building providing accommodation for 1,204 student beds.

Featuring extensive curtain walling to its facade, Nido Spitalfields will become an instant landmark on the central London skyline and also features six ground floor retail units, a gym and five-stories of commercial office accommodation (84,480 sq ft of gross floor area).

The student rooms come in single or shared configurations, and feature a kitchen area and a bathroom pod, which is manufactured off site and then craned into position.

Residents also benefit from communal facilities including common rooms and study rooms.

The project is scheduled for completion by late summer 2010.

David Lawther, Chief Executive of ISG, commented: "We are delighted to announce this contract win".

"It is an excellent project for ISG and fits perfectly with our existing commercial operations".

"This scheme, in the growing student accommodation sector, is a classic example of the type of demanding, high profile project that ISG is capable of delivering.".
