ISG takes a ferry across the Mersey
ISG start work on a GBP10 million project with Merseytravel to construct a new ferry terminal building on Liverpool's Pier Head waterfront area - a designated World Heritage Site.
The new terminal building has been specifically designed with a low-rise profile and is set to complement its historical surroundings with carefully selected stonework finishes to its facade The terminal building is expected to play a crucial role in attracting visitors to the city, and tourists wishing to take a pleasure trip on the Mersey will be able to enjoy purpose built modern departure facilities, alongside the regular commuter service to the Woodside and Seacombe ferry terminals

The steel frame structure incorporates a departure area, ticket office, retail units and administrative areas on the ground and mezzanine floors, an open plan multi-use first floor area, with a restaurant and open terrace on the third floor.
Externally, the building features limestone cladding and large areas of curtain walling to provide breathtaking views across the river.
Designed to be one of the most sustainable buildings of its type in the world, the new ferry terminal is expected to achieve an excellent BREEAM environmental rating once completed.
The project is due for completion by late summer 2008.
Craig Tatton, managing director of ISG's regional business, commented: "The new ferry terminal building at Pier Head highlights the continuing renaissance of Liverpool as it looks forward to 2008 and its tenure as European Capital of Culture".
"The state-of-the-art facility will play an integral role in the city's future transport infrastructure and we are confident that the new terminal will become an iconic building on Liverpool's waterfront".
Councillor Mark Dowd, Chair of Merseytravel, which owns and operates the Mersey Ferries said: "Our plans will leave a lasting legacy from 2008, Liverpool's European Capital of Culture year".
"The new building will offer much better facilities for ferry passengers, commuters and the hundreds of thousands of visitors using the ferries every year".
Neil Scales, Chief Executive and Director General of Merseytravel, said: "The Mersey Ferries are the most popular paid for attraction in the region and we want to continue to improve the service by transforming Pier Head Ferry Terminal".
