ISG and University of Leeds redevelopment scheme

An ISG plc product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Jul 1, 2008

ISG has negotiated a second phase of work with the University of Leeds to carry out a GBP1.8 million fast-track refurbishment programme at the Michael Sadler building.

The University is looking to modernise and refurbish the entire building, with the project being carefully phased to minimise disruption to students and teaching staff that use this integral campus resource.

The second phase of the Michael Sadler building redevelopment sees the contractor continue to work upwards through the building floor by floor.

The remainder of the ground floor area, known as the Link, will be stripped out, reconfigured and refurbished as well as the entire first and second floors.

New lecture rooms, staff offices and teaching areas will be created, alongside welfare facilities and communal areas.

A major mechanical and electrical (MandE) services upgrade will also be carried out during the 20-week programme, which sees ISG replace all central plant equipment, as well as core MandE services within the service shafts.

Maintaining continuity of services to the building is essential as both upper and lower floors remain in full occupation, so ISG will adopt flexible working practices to mitigate any potential disruption.

Craig Tatton, managing director of ISG's regional business, commented: "Following a strong performance and successful delivery on the initial phase of the Michael Sadler building redevelopment, we have now negotiated the second stage of this keynote scheme".

"Maintaining excellent client relationships is an essential strategy for the business and with the University of Leeds we have already demonstrated our ability to work effectively within a challenging live environment and deliver a high quality solution.".
