ISG awarded GBP660K Doncaster school project

ISG will be carrying out improvement work at the former Nightingale School site in Balby to develop a new Pupil Referral Unit, the Nexus PRU.

Doncaster's drive to improve the quality of school buildings took an important new step this week.

ISG has been awarded a GBP660K project by the Council as part of a refurbishment programme to improve the educational provision for pupils out of school within the Borough.

Nexus PRU will provide a dedicated learning environment for children at Key Stage 3 level who are not able to attend a mainstream or special school within the local area.

Commenting on the project, Mayor of Doncaster, Martin Winter, said: "Supporting our most vulnerable children and young people through the provision of education buildings fit for the 21st century is vitally important".

""I am delighted ISG will be progressing work on this project over the next few months that will ensure pupils are given the very best opportunities to succeed in their educational and personal and social development through the development of increased space, improved accommodation and better resources"".

"The fast-track project will see ISG carry out demolition work, removing a single-storey timber frame classroom block and link corridor".

"The contractor will then carry out an extensive refurbishment programme within the existing buildings, including upgrading classrooms and redecorating and modernising the teaching accommodation along with the installation of new suspended ceilings and partition walls".

"ISG will also replace and upgrade the building's mechanical and electrical services".

"The existing sports hall will be redecorated and repairs made to the sprung wooden floor, with the main building's facade enhanced through the replacement of the remaining steel windows with matching UPVC units".

"Repairs will also be made to a number of timber windows and felt roof, and a new disabled access ramp formed at the PRU's entrance".

"The project commences at the end of the month and is scheduled for completion by November 2008".
