ISG lends helping hand to clear fire damage

ISG clear away the remains of a fire damaged Beavers and Cubs hut that has blighted a site in Grimsby.

ISG, which is currently building a GBP2.1 million Emergency Care Centre at the nearby Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital, offered its assistance to clear the site, which will be used for additional parking and as a wild nature area.

The former scout building, which was used up to two years ago by a local dance group, was partially destroyed in an unsolved arson attack in 2006.

Since then, the building had further deteriorated and posed a considerable safety hazard on the site of the popular scout group's headquarters.

Despite the best efforts of helpers to clear the site by hand, ISG with its groundwork subcontractor Rapicon , brought some serious earthmoving kit onto the site and within a single day had the area cleared and levelled.

Mike Adamson, Beaver Scout Leader, explained: "The remains of the former scout hut have been a real eyesore and potential hazard for a long period of time, so we were delighted when ISG offered to help us out".

"A number of Beavers, Cubs and their parents from the group came down to watch the transformation unfold and we were all amazed at how quickly the site was cleared".

"The reclaimed plot has now provided us with much needed additional car parking space, and also the potential for a wild area for the children to enjoy, and to enable them to work towards certain activity badges".

"We understand that the 5th Grimsby Scartho Scout Group has a growing membership and we are certain that they will make great use of the increased capacity on site.".
