Totty Construction has held a 'topping out ceremony' to mark the completion of the highest point of it's £4 million project to build a state-of-the-art fire station in Bradford for the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Reaching this landmark signals a countdown for the completion of this important facility in the city centre - which is on target to be fully operational by autumn this year.

The three-storey, steel frame structure features a curved metallic roof with a brickwork facade and situated on Leeds Road, has greatly improved accessibility to key regional road networks, which will further enhance the brigade's overall efficiency.

A full range of training facilities is also being constructed by Totty on site to ensure the fire brigade is equipped to tackle a comprehensive range of hazards, including a three-storey training tower to the rear of the new station for simulated rescues.

Once completed, the station will feature a large community room on the ground floor, providing members of the public with information on fire safety, as well as acting as a central information and liaison point.

This floor also houses a number of administrative offices, kit drying room and gym.

The first floor contains the primary accommodation space with four individual resting areas and a large canteen and kitchen, along with a lecture theatre and recreation room.

John Gittins, managing director of Totty Construction's public division, explained: "By working in partnership with all key stakeholders involved in this important project, we have made excellent progress on this state-of-the-art facility and are on track to hand over the building to the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service right on schedule".

Phil Toase, Chief Fire Officer for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, added: "We're very pleased with the progress being made on the new Bradford station".

"The position of the new station will be of great benefit to the communities in Bradford and this landmark in its construction is encouraging for both the public and our staff".

"The new fire station will provide our firefighters with a modern environment with facilities suited to their operational needs, whilst providing facilities and opportunities for the needs of the local community and we look forward to seeing the building finished.".
