Totty Construction, one of the largest construction groups in the North of England, has implemented Knowledge Management software from Union Square Software.
The 'Workspace' software replaces a number of disparate systems currently in place across the company in order to create a central enterprise portal for all corporate information.
Totty Construction is one of the largest construction and property development groups in the North of England, carrying out new and refurbishment projects up to £20 million in value, and is part of the Interior Services Group Plc (ISG), a construction services specialist with a £740 million turnover.
After a period of consistent business growth, the company began searching for a system to improve workflow and the day-to-day management of its business operations.
The decision to implement Union Square's Workspace software was taken to maximise the efficient dissemination of data throughout the business and provide a real competitive advantage.
John Gittins, managing director for Totty Construction, commented, "The adoption of a centralised knowledge database has undoubtedly improved data sharing and the quality of information we used to receive from our legacy systems".
"Workspace provides us with a complete view of all project information in 'real-time', giving staff instant access to the individual status of any project." The Workspace solution from Union Square has been developed in response to the needs of companies within the construction supply chain who want to evolve a better way of working for all their employees.
The product delivers a range of benefits associated with capturing, storing and retrieving the entire knowledge base of an organisation through a single system and interface.
Workspace provides Totty Construction with a broad range of functionality, including document storage and management, enquiry management, project collaboration and intranet/extranet capabilities.
Commenting on the decision to purchase Workspace from Union Square, Gittins added, "We looked at a number of similar products which met some of our initial requirements but effectively they were all 'out-of-the-box' solutions".
"We liked the fact that the consultants at Union Square took the time to understand our specific requirements and then developed a customised system that addressed our business needs".
Totty Construction has initially purchased 20 licences of the Workspace software, and it is planning to roll out additional components of the software later in the year, as part of an ongoing business improvement strategy.
