Totty Building has secured a project from the Salt Foundation to carry out a refurbishment programme at the Grade II* listed Victoria Hall at Saltaire in Bradford.

ISG Totty Building has secured a £250K project from the Salt Foundation to carry out a refurbishment programme at the Grade II* listed Victoria Hall at Saltaire in Bradford.

Victoria Hall plays host to a range of community activities across three-storey's of accommodation and ISG Totty Building will provide a sympathetic restoration of a number of ornately decorated public rooms and the building exterior.

The building is now managed on behalf of the Salt Foundation by Shipley College.

Ian Durham, Head of Estates and Facilities at the College, commented: "Victoria Hall has received very little maintenance since it was refurbished in the early 90's".

"The use of the Hall is growing daily and, alongside regular community events, is host to many regional, national and one - off events ranging from private weddings and celebrations to larger scale dance events, festivals, conferences and exhibitions and concert performances".

"Now is the time for the building to be both returned to its former glory and altered in some key areas".

"We are confident that this will prevent further deterioration and promote greater use of the Hall which will be of benefit to the community".

Geraldine Whelan, Chairman of the Salt Foundation said, on behalf of the Trustees, "We are looking forward to the restoration of one of the most outstanding historical buildings in the Shipley Area".

The project has been carefully phased to limit disruption to any public functions that are being held at the hall during the works programme.

ISG Totty Building will repair plasterwork and carry out bespoke joinery, in addition to an extensive programme of redecoration and the installation of a new reception area.

Alterations to the lift area and enhancements to the entrance will improve accessibility, and the contractor will upgrade the existing bar and kitchen areas.

Architect for the scheme is Rance Booth and Smith of Saltaire and the project is due for completion by the end of November.

Philip Ryder, Managing Director of ISG Totty Building, commented: "The company has established strong credentials for working on complex and architecturally sensitive projects, which has proved essential with our latest scheme at Saltaire".

"Once completed, we are confident that Victoria Hall will continue to serve as an important focal point for the local community and attract an increasing number of visitors to this world heritage site.".
