ISG Totty Building has won its latest project with Kirklees Council - a GBP750K project to create new student facilities at Shelley College.
The contractor is due to imminently commence construction of a new stand-alone sixth-form centre at the highly regarded specialist school for science in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.
Occupying a site to the rear of the gym, the new steel frame, single-storey sixth-form centre will provide purpose built accommodation for the college's increasing A-Level student population.
With a brick and render facade, aluminium windows and metal roof, the new centre comprises a large social space, learning resource area, welfare facilities, interview room and administrative office.
Externally, feature landscaping and planting will create an attractive seating area for students adjacent to the new sixth-form centre.
To reduce the environmental impact of the development, the contractor will retain all excavated material from the foundations of the new centre and re-distribute this across the college site.
A substantial temporary access road will be constructed to enable access to the site and minimise any potential disruption to the college throughout the works programme, which is scheduled for completion at the start of the new academic year in September.
The project will also see ISG Totty Building refurbish and convert Shelley College's existing sixth-form centre, within the main college building, into specialist teaching areas.
The contractor will install new suspended ceilings, floor finishes and partition walls to create a new dyslexia teaching room, subject skill development area, an additional classroom, office, workshop and meeting room.
Philip Ryder, managing director of ISG Totty Building, commented: "Kirklees Council continues to trust ISG Totty Building to successfully deliver a complex range of projects across its entire property portfolio".
"At Shelley College we have to balance the demands of a strict project delivery timeframe, with the challenge of working within a live environment, eliminating risks and minimising potential disruption to staff and students.".
