Building firm to construct Manchester centrepiece
ISG Totty Building is to construct the centrepiece of the inaugural bi-annual Manchester International Festival, which showcases original works created especially for the festival.
ISG Totty Building has been appointed by Manchester City Council to construct the centrepiece of the inaugural bi-annual Manchester International Festival, which commences on the 28th June.
Festival Pavilion, designed by renowned Manchester architect practice Stephenson Bell, has been erected adjacent to Manchester Central (formerly G-Mex), where it will remain for the duration of the 18-day event.
Manchester International Festival is the first event of its kind, showcasing original works created especially for the festival by some of the world's most innovative artists, across a broad spectrum of the arts, popular culture and music.
Festival Pavilion will become the central focus of the event, providing an inspirational space to soak up the festival's ambience with a performance area, high quality catering and enclosed seating capacity for approximately 175 people.
The main pavilion is a 21 m high circular tensile fabric structure, with a central steel mast and 26 perimeter fixing points at ground level.
A second outdoor space, which will have a parasol covered area provides additional seating for a further 200 people.
Philip Ryder, managing director of ISG Totty Building, commented: "The Festival Pavilion is set to become a real focal point for the Manchester International Festival and provides an innovative backdrop to this exciting cultural eve.
