First class University win for ISG Totty Building
ISG Totty Building secure GBP1.5 million design and build project to construct new Post Experience Development facilities for Sheffield Hallam University.
Set within the Collegiate Crescent conservation area of the city, the purpose-built resource centre has been sympathetically designed to complement the local built environment, with Ashlar stone and timber cladding to its facade and a green sedum roof.
The first phase of the project involves the demolition of an existing two-storey building on site, which currently houses two squash courts and a lecture theatre.
The contractor will then excavate material between this structure and an adjacent mews building to enable the construction of a gently curving two-storey link-way, providing improved access to the mews building and additional teaching areas above.
The new three-storey steel frame PED building will feature a large lecture theatre and welfare facilities on the ground floor, with five large teaching areas on the upper two levels.
The existing two-storey mews building will also be stripped out, remodelled and comprehensively upgraded as part of the project, to provide a range of flexible teaching facilities for the University.
The project is due to commence on 16 July, with completion scheduled for mid May 2008.
Philip Ryder, managing director of ISG Totty Building, commented: "The PED building project represents an excellent example of collaborative working between ISG Totty Building and its client".
"By understanding the University's requirements and expectations from the very outset, we were able to develop a creative solution that delivers first rate teaching facilities within an aesthetically pleasing design.".
