Dean and Bowes has completed a comprehensive refurbishment of a countryside pub and retreat in Burghclere, Newbury, for pub company Merchant Inns.

Dean and Bowes, the national fit out and refurbishment specialist, has completed a comprehensive refurbishment of a countryside pub and retreat in Burghclere, Newbury, for pub company Merchant Inns.

The refurbishment at the grade II listed Carnarvon Arms successfully blends contemporary styling cues with traditional high quality materials, and gained instant approval from customers who have flocked to the popular inn since it reopened at the end of November.

The intensive refurbishment programme included both internal and external elements, with Dean and Bowes tasked with delivering a full scale renovation to strict deadlines to ensure the historic inn was trading in the run up to the busy Christmas period.

Following the large-scale strip out of the existing accommodation, Dean and Bowes updated the building's mechanical and electrical systems and replaced the bar with a solid oak front unit and back bar.

A specially imported Chinese oak solid wood floor has been laid throughout the main bar area, with modern lighting and subtle paint finishes completing the stylish ambience.

As a highly regarded eating establishment, great care has been taken to ensure a fine dining experience at the Carnarvon Arms, with high quality furniture and fittings in the main restaurant area and a newly installed commercial kitchen.

The Carnarvon Arms has 12 guest bedrooms and each of these rooms has been extensively modernised.

The rooms are stylishly decorated and boast the latest technology, including plasma screens and WiFi Internet access.

Externally, Dean and Bowes has carried out minor repair work and repainted the building's facade, installed feature lighting, upgraded the car park and landscaped the grounds.
