ISG new Sure Start childrens project

ISG has commenced work on its latest Sure Start project in a Gorton school, under a framework partnership with Manchester City Council.

The GBP213,000 scheme sees the contractor convert the existing Sacred Heart Infant School into a new Sure Start Centre, providing a comprehensive range of facilities for children under five years old and their families.

The Sure Start concept lies at the heart of the government's agenda to provide children with the best possible start in life, and centres provide affordable childcare places, whilst also acting as a resource to support parents.

The existing single-storey infant school building is being comprehensively refurbished and modernised to provide a high quality community resource, with facilities including a creche and playroom, baby change and baby feed rooms.

The building will receive new wall, floor and ceiling finishes and upgraded mechanical and electrical services, a new reception area will be formed and a range of meeting rooms, offices and a specialist health room facility created.

ISG will install a new disabled access toilet and upgrade welfare facilities, as well as carrying out roof repairs and external fencing works.

The fast-track project is scheduled for completion in July.
