ICES Appoints New Committee Member
Carillion Rail Commercial Development Manager, Steve Jackson, has been appointed by the Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (ICES) to its Education, Training and Membership Committee.
Steve, who is a Chartered Engineer, first joined the Institution in 1996 and is a full Corporate Member.
He is actively involved with the activities of the Institution through membership of the ICES Quantity Surveying and Construction Economics Panel (QSCE) and his representation on several ad hoc working parties.
It is due to his recent service on two working parties that has led to Steve's appointment to the Education, Training and Membership (ET and M) Committee.
"I was invited to sit on two working parties for the Institution recently," said Steve.
"Both were convened by the Education, Training and Membership Committee to draw up sets of competency frameworks for two grades of membership namely, the Technical Member and Corporate Member professional qualifications.
"My involvement with both competency working parties provided me with the opportunity to use my experience gained from developing competency profiles for staff employed by Carillion to facilitate the development of a set of competency guidelines for the new ICES Technical Member professional qualification, which was launched in January this year.
Each working party proved equally challenging and rewarding." "I hope that through my involvement with the ET and M Committee, opportunities will arise whereby I can influence the education, training and development policies of the Institution for the benefit of its members and those studying and employed in civil engineering surveying," Steve concluded.
"I am also keen to help broaden the appeal and relevance of the Institution to those engaged in activities within the industry." The Education, Training and Membership Committee is responsible for establishing educational and training standards for civil engineering surveyors through the accreditation of academic courses and the provision of training guidelines, a continuing professional development scheme and a range of training courses and workshops.
Its responsibilities also encompass the establishment of the Institution's membership criteria and the administration of membership applications.
The Committee meets once every quarter at the ICES Head Offices in Sale, Cheshire.
