Institution Of Civil Engineering Surveyors' Inaugurates New President

John Wilding FInstCES has been inaugurated as the Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors President for the year of 2003 - 2004 John is an active member of the Institution through his involvement in various committees and working groups

He is an elected member of the Council of Management and is the Chair of the Public Relations Working Group.

Prior to his appointment, John was the Institution's Treasurer and Chair of the Finance and General Purposes Committee.

In his opening letter to the membership, John has set out a number of aspirations, which he believes would bring about significant change within the Institution and its position in the construction industry.

He proposes to debate with the Institution's Council of Management the following aspirations with a view to securing their support: To raise the profile of the Institution beyond the civil engineering surveying industry.

To raise the status of the ICES professional qualifications.

To seek to introduce an ICES register of adjudicators.

To explore the opportunities for the pursuance of Chartered status.

To encourage wider participation of younger members in Institution activities.

In his own words, John said, "ICES is the voice of commercial management and geospatial engineering in civil engineering, it is a voice that has been too quiet for too long.

It is a situation I want to change." By original profession a quantity surveyor, John is now increasingly involved in dispute management.

He is the principal of John Wilding and Co Limited, consultants in quantity surveying, and a director of Blake Wilding Limited consultants in engineering, both based in Manchester.

The Institution is governed by the Council of Management, which oversees the overall direction and policy of the organisation.

The Council of Management is composed of a President, Senior Vice President, Junior Vice President and fifteen ordinary members, all of which are directors and trustees of the Institution.

The Institution has also appointed Robert Fleming FInstCES as Senior Vice President and John Bacon FInstCES as Junior Vice President for the new Presidential Year.
