Village hall reduces footprint with biomass
Specialist installers Wessex Ecoheat replaced inefficient electric storage heaters with a BioWIN wood pellet heating system from Windhager at Netherbury village hall
Commenting on the project, Mike Morse, co-ordinator of the project and member of the village hall committee said," We wanted to go further with renewable energy and after much consideration chose to install a biomass boiler".
"Windhager was recommended as providing the highest quality products and services on the market and we are extremely pleased with the installation which is fantastic".
The fully automated 26kW BioWIN Exklusiv wood pellet system features a suction head providing an automatic feed of pellets to the boiler.
The Windhager BioTOP external pellet storage hopper with underground hoses to the boiler room enables the remote siting of fuel storage from the building for external refilling.
The CBP scheme provides funding for the improvement of community buildings offering a wide range of services and activities to local people by making them more economically, socially and environmentally sustainable.
With the usage of Netherbury Village Hall expected to double every year for the next three years by offering a variety of new educational and exercise related activities, the BioWIN will provide energy savings and revenue increases.
The wood pellet fuel supplies are provided by a local company, contracted to provide a monthly fuel level checking service to enable a completely labour-free boiler system.
This will also provide local business opportunities to support the rural economy, allowing financial and environmental costs of fuel transport to be minimised.
As the full range of biomass heating systems from Windhager UK are certified under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS), all installations of Windhager boilers from 15 July 2009 will qualify for financial support through the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) to be introduced in April 2011.
