Jackson Construction shines with £8 million Lighthouse Authority HQ contract.

Southern-based main contractor, Jackson Construction, has landed a contract valued around £8 million to construct a new headquarters office and buoy yard for Trinity House, the General Lighthouse Authority for England and Wales The development project is part funded by a £2.5 million grant from the East of England Development Agency (EEDA) and has helped to maintain the historic link between Trinity House and the town of Harwich

Work commences on site mid-May, with an initial package of enabling works including the strengthening of Trinity Pier, re-alignment of flood defences and installation of drainage facilities.

Construction of Trinity House's new headquarters building is due to commence at the end of May, with the entire project scheduled for completion in summer 2005.

Bernard Clarke, managing director of Jackson Construction, commented: "Jackson Construction has been the key regional contractor in the south-east for many years, with an enviable reputation for securing high profile schemes like Trinity House.

The project represents an excellent forum for Jackson Construction to highlight its credentials in both main contracting and enabling work on this challenging site." Jeremy de Halpert, chairman of Trinity House said: "The construction of our new headquarters and buoy yard represents Trinity House's long term commitment to Harwich and provide a range of employment opportunities for current and future generations.

The concentration of the majority of our operations in our new facilities at Harwich will enable us to enhance our efficiency and will directly benefit the ship owner who pays for the Aids to Navigation service we provide".
