Jackson Building Services, the special projects division of Jackson Construction, has landed a high profile £1.6m project to create a new water activities centre in Norwich.

Jackson Building Services, the special projects division of Jackson Construction, has landed a high profile £1.6 million project to create a new water activities centre at Whitlingham Country Park in Norwich The 20-week project is jointly funded by Norfolk County Council, the Big Lottery Fund and Sport England and is due for completion at the end of February 2005

The new water activities centre is being constructed on the banks of the Whitlingham Great Broad, within Whitlingham Country park - owned by the Whitlingham Trust, with the landmark facility set to be run in conjunction with the Trust.

Jackson Building Services is constructing a hardwood timber deck, steps and a ramp and laying concrete foundations, onto which eight, off-site manufactured cabins will be arranged in a large semi-circle.

The eight cabins have a variety of uses including, a workshop, teaching cabin, administration, changing area and kit store.

One of the most innovative aspects of the project is the large fabric canopy structure, approximately 35m by 50m in size, that Jackson Building Services will then erect over the central decked section to provide a highly flexible all weather area.

The new centre will be used by a broad range of groups and societies and prove an essential addition to the council's recreational facilities.

Mike Manning, Construction Manager for Jackson Building Services, explained: "The project at Whitlingham represents a growing number of contracts where leading edge building methods are used to construct high quality facilities.

Jackson Building Services has built up an enviable track record of using innovative techniques and technologies on its sites, providing clients with a flexible and tailored construction solution.".
