Jackson Construction continues to demonstrate its specialist extra care credentials, with the award of a GBP3 million scheme in Haughley, Suffolk, for client Housing 21 The not for profit specialist in older people's services has given Jackson Construction the go ahead to commence the building of the 32 unit 'very sheltered housing' development in mid-July

Jackson Construction is carving out an excellent reputation for the delivery of innovative extra care projects across the south of England, helping to win the 'Best New Development by a Housing Association' award for a scheme it recently completed in Barking, Essex.

The high specification new-build facility in Haughley has been designed specifically to provide its residents with a home for life.

The focus is on the provision of high quality care within an environment where residents have the choice to live as independently as they like, with their own self contained flats and a front door.

This model of care provision is proving increasingly popular, with the Department of Health setting up a designated extra care housing fund, representing a real alternative to care homes and dispersed homecare.

The two-storey masonry building will feature a double-pitched red terracotta roof with partial timber cladding to the external facade.

Upper floor flats will feature juliet balconies, with ground floor accommodation benefiting from individual patio areas.

Externally, Jackson Construction will create a series of linking pathways and a sensory herb garden with extensive landscaping and the formation of a number of car parking spaces.

Within the new building, residents will share a number of large and tastefully decorated communal facilities, including a main lounge, conservatory and dining area.

An on site hairdressing salon, gym, and computer suite are also available to residents, with a laundry and buggy store providing extra convenience.

The project is scheduled for completion early September 2006.

Bernard Clarke, managing director of Jackson Construction, commented: "The creation of a specialist team within Jackson highlights our commitment to the fast emerging extra care sector".

"With a number of high profile and award winning schemes completed to date, clients are increasingly looking for a contractor who can add real value to a project and work collaboratively to develop innovative solutions and identify areas where savings can be made".

"Jackson Construction's enviable track record in this niche sector has proved invaluable in securing further opportunities with key extra care providers.".
