Jackson's Completes Duxford War Museum Project
Jackson Building Services has completed a £1.3 million, nine-month project to transform the old Armoury building at the Imperial War Museum Duxford.
The new swimming pool will feature an eight-lane, 25m competition standard pool, as well as a combined learner and fun pool.
Underlining the competition credentials of the facility, Jackson will build a large viewing gallery on the first floor, accessed via a feature steel staircase or lift, with capacity for up to 300 people to view swimming events and competitions.
Constructed on a steeply sloping site, the pool will feature extensive curtain walling to the facade and external structural steel supports will provide an interesting architectural element to the design.
Internally, Jackson will create a large changing village, a number of administrative offices, canoe store and children's creche area.
The project is due to commence on site mid-May, with a 66-week duration.
Mark Hart, Director of Jackson Construction's Public division, commented: "The public has waited a long time for this development to finally reach fruition and once completed, the new centre will undoubtedly prove a key local amenity and an outstanding venue for staging high profile regional swimming competitions.".
