ISG Jackson has secured a project from Sir Robert McAlpine to build a new physical and recreational training facility for the Ministry of Defence at Colchester Garrison in Essex.

ISG Jackson has secured a £10.2 million project from Sir Robert McAlpine to build a new physical and recreational training facility for the Ministry of Defence (MoD) at Colchester Garrison in Essex Sir Robert McAlpine is building a new Garrison for RMPA as part of their PFI contract with the MOD

ISG Jackson has built a strong relationship with the MoD over a number of years, which in 2004 resulted in the successful completion of a £12.5 million new middle school at RAF Feltwell in Norfolk.

The new training facility, situated within Colchester Garrison, will be constructed using a steel frame, with a number of architectural finishes to the building's facade, including steel profiled sheeting, brick and textured block work.

The new centre will boast an eight-lane, 25m swimming pool with viewing area, a multi-use two court sports hall, six squash courts, a fitness suite and large wet and dry changing areas.

ISG Jackson will also create a number of administrative offices and fit out a bar area, with the project due for completion in December 2007.

Col Ian Ogden from Colchester Garrison, explained: "The new sports centre will prove a magnificent addition to our excellent 21st century barracks at Colchester and provide a first rate training facility for our soldiers".

"The local community is also set to benefit with a joint MoD and Colchester Borough Council management agreement enabling the Sports Clubs of Colchester to make full use of these new facilities".

Mark Hart, director of ISG Jackson's Public division, commented: "Closely following our appointment to build a new £7.2 million competition standard swimming pool in Braintree, this latest project continues to highlight ISG Jackson's expertise in constructing key note leisure facilities".

"The company has worked closely with the MoD over a number of years - successfully delivering important facilities across strategic sites in the South of England.".
