Jackson's Completes Duxford War Museum Project
Jackson Building Services has completed a £1.3 million, nine-month project to transform the old Armoury building at the Imperial War Museum Duxford.
The single-storey, steel frame building features two internal courtyards with facing brickwork and timber weatherboarding to the facade, and has been designed around the specific needs of its students, incorporating a range of facilities, such as a therapeutic hydrotherapy pool.
Once constructed, the new school will include 14 individual teaching rooms, a dining hall with kitchen, sports facilities, assembly hall, a number of staff and administrative offices and buggy and wheelchair storage.
The project includes a large external component, with ISG Jackson building a number of specially designed play areas, decked terraces and pathways, as well as carry out a range of hard and soft landscaping finishes.
A car park will be formed to the rear of the new building and an all weather sports pitch created.
Excavated material will be re-used on site and a number of existing trees and shrubs retained to reduce the impact of the scheme, with a rainwater harvesting system boosting the environmental credentials of the new building.
The school is scheduled for completion by May 2008.
Mark Hart, director of ISG Jackson's Public division, commented: "Essex County Council is firmly committed to further enhancing the quality of its education provision and has made a significant investment in bringing plans for the new Pioneer School to fruition".
"Every aspect of the new building has been tailored to the specific requirements of its pupils and the school will undoubtedly prove an essential resource within the county.".
