Jackson Building Services, the special projects division of Jackson Construction, has been awarded a £1.8m contract to construct construct a new 24,000 sq. ft, two-storey business centre in Chatteris.
Sustainability was a key issue for the client in the construction of the new studio block and ISG Jackson Special Projects is utilising an off-site manufactured timber frame method within the new building.
Externally, the building uses a number of complimentary materials to its facade, with grey brick, curtain walling and Douglas Fir timber louvers, with the contractor also installing an open wooded balcony area on the first floor.
The studio block features under floor heating throughout to allow for uncluttered walls and comprises a large education room, a media studio, a large L-shaped art studio and work live studio with a bed-sitting area, designed specifically for short stay live work occupancy.
Six art studios of varying sizes are located to the first floor of the building, which can be accessed via a lift.
ISG Jackson Special Projects will additionally carry out a range of hard and soft landscaping finishes externally, with the project scheduled for completion in summer 2007.
