Jackson's Completes Duxford War Museum Project
Jackson Building Services has completed a £1.3 million, nine-month project to transform the old Armoury building at the Imperial War Museum Duxford.
ISG Jackson Special Projects will use a Structural Insulated Panel system from manufacturer Kingspan TEK, with fully insulated wall and roof sections fabricated within a factory environment and then rapidly connected together on site.
The timber frame structures will then be clad in traditional brick work and highly efficient timber frame double glazed window units installed.
The development's impressive environmental credentials also include the installation of a living green sedum roof on the apartment block and rainwater harvesting systems to store runoff, which will then be used for flushing toilets.
Efficient under floor heating systems will be installed within the homes, which will also generate their own heat following the installation of a ground source heat pump, which transfers the latent heat from the ground into useable domestic heating.
Photo voltaic cells will also be installed at roof level to generate emission free, green energy for the new homes.
The innovative project is scheduled for completion in March 2008.
Michael Manning, divisional director for ISG Jackson Special Projects, commented: "Orbit continues to embrace highly sustainable building practices across its developments and our latest project for the organisation really takes the sustainable community concept to the next level.
The new homes have been specifically designed to be highly thermally efficient, which reduces the need for excess heating, whilst the green technologies incorporated on the scheme help to generate energy and heat, and retain water that otherwise would be lost into the drainage system.
"Utilising the very latest building technologies also enables us to build faster and more efficiently, which in turn means Orbit's new residents are able to take possession of their new homes that much quicker.".
