Couch Perry and Wilkes wins Alder Hey NHS contract
Couch Perry and Wilkes is appointed by Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust to support the procurement of a PFI partner for a new inpatient and acute treatment children's hospital.
Being built as phase 1 of the Europe's first Children's Health Park, the new hospital is due to be completed in June 2014.
As one of the UK's largest dedicated environmental building services consultancies and experts in low carbon and sustainability, Couch Perry and Wilkes has worked closely with the Trust.
From the planning stages to set the design brief, to the design of the Public Sector Comparator scheme, through to developing the business case for this exciting, iconic new hospital, the company has an on-going relationship with the Trust.
Keith Terry, director specialist services at Couch Perry and Wilkes said: "The provision of a genuinely sustainable solution in conjunction with a high quality environment has been top of the agenda, leading to detailed consideration of the potential for passive engineering and energy savings.
"The engineering design of the new hospital must comply with recognised health industry criteria, fully supporting the critical clinical needs of the environment, but also be innovative, efficient, flexible, and most importantly, child friendly.
"The development also needs to recognise UK government targets for carbon reduction, and the Trust has set a challenge for its PFI partner to help it achieve a low, preferably near zero carbon development which fully considers the best modern passive design techniques and integrates these on a whole building basis".
