Raising the standards for communal
stairs

JELD-WEN offers two styles of communal staircase, a traditional stair with decorative handrail and a more contemporary design to suit the modern apartment.

New guidance from the BWF (British Woodworking Federation), which has been released recently, states that communal stairs must meet specific standards in relation to the strength and weight bearing of the flight and the handrail or baluster.
JELD-WEN welcomes this technical guidance, which is designed to promote good practice within the industry, raise standards and prevent the under-specifying of stairs.
