New technical guide to timber windows
Specifying timber windows and external joinery products has never been easier, thanks to a new technical guide from Jeld-Wen.
JELD-WEN's Product Manager Mark Roberts explains: "This is a huge breakthrough in fire doors and we are really excited about being the manufacturer to develop and launch this innovative product".
"FireGuard offers significant potential for builders and contractors in the refurbishment market because amonst other things, it saves them and the homeowner the expense and inconvenience of having to change the frame to suit a 44mm fire door".
"Housebuilders will also benefit from only having to buy one frame type as well as being able to offer peace of mind to potential buyers".
FireGuard is set to be popular with housebuilders and developers as it allows them to harmonise their frame sourcing and fitting operations as FireGuard fits into the same frames as most non fire rated doors and also provides acoustic benefits, which is particularly important in apartments.
It also has major benefits for architects and interior designers, because these fire doors meet with Part B regulations and are tested to British Standards and, being lightweight, they are more user-friendly than traditional 44mm fire doors for both carpenters on site and the occupants.
For contractors, it gives their customers an extra reason to upgrade their internal doors and because it fits into an existing frame, the installation can be done much more quickly.
Homeowners will be the major beneficiaries at it gives them additional peace of mind and protection from fire and smoke, without compromising on the style of their doors.
Mark Roberts continues: "We carried out extensive research into whether fire doors really needed to be so different from 'normal doors' as we wanted to make them easier to specify and install".
"There are huge opportunities for developers to add value to their properties through these doors and for contractors to provide homeowners with additional peace of mind when carrying out refurbishments and replacements." With over 50,000 house fires per year, there is a huge market for fire doors that enhance a home's safety.
With the recent tightening of regulations relating to fire doors, there is also a market for these doors for use in loft conversions.
Again, the fact that standard door frame widths could be used makes it much easier to fit.
