Jewson has taken delivery of the one millionth cubic metre of timber shipped to the UK, from the Honkalahti sawmill of main supplier StoraEnso, based in Finland and Sweden.

In a ceremony to mark the occasion, Brian Stead, Jewson commercial director, commended employee Jimmy Lenham, who is retiring after 50 years with the company, for handling five million linear metres of timber over his career Jewson currently imports approximately 300,000mü of redwood and whitewood (spruce and pine) per year - of which a significant volume is from StoraEnso

The timber is delivered to Jewson depots at the ports of Hull and Newport, before being distributed nationwide to the majority of its branch network.

In line with the Jewson timber procurement policy, StoraEnso is certified for Chain of Custody.

The timber is used in the construction of houses including architraves and skirting.

"This milestone delivery is a tribute to our relationship with key suppliers such as StoraEnso," said Brian Stead.

"Jewson Internal Timber Supply (JITS) works hard to ensure that we can trace timber back to its origin, by working with certified suppliers.".
