Jewson Is Mowlem's Supplier Of The Year
Builders' merchant Jewson has been named Supplier of the Year in Wales for the second consecutive year by Mowlem, the construction and support services group.
He was also instrumental in setting up, and now chairs, the Green Procurement Group (GPG), which examines ways in which the supply chain can work together to drive down waste and help contractors meet the demands of site waste management plans (SWMPs).
There are currently 12 members of the GPG, including leading industry players such as Lafarge, Hanson, ICI and Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP).
Steve comments: "As an employer of over eight million people, the construction industry has a major role to play in enhancing and developing the sustainability of its output, particularly as many products ultimately become 'waste' at various points in the supply chain".
"At Think 08, Jewson aims to debate the construction industry's waste legacy, discuss solutions such as minimising waste packaging, as well as explore the possibility of making significant changes to construction, procurement and logistics processes".
With 100 exhibitors and 80 free seminars, Think 08 encourages key industry players to debate how sustainability affects the built environment in terms of property, construction and regeneration.
Confirmed guest speakers include Hilary Benn, the Secretary of State for Environment, Sir Howard Bernstein, of Manchester City Council, Che Wall, of building services consultancy Lincolne Scott and World Future Council's Herbert Girardet.
