Illuminated handrail from Mercantile Met Tech

A Mercantile Met Tech product story

Mercantile Met Tech has developed an illuminated handrail and balustrade for public areas, in partnership with D W Windsor.

Mercantile Met Tech has won more than GBP1million worth of orders to fit glowing handrails.

The illuminated handrails are being installed at offices, airports and shopping malls.

These contracts result from a lengthy RandD programme carried out by Mercantile Met Tech.

The challenge was to design a stainless steel connection that could withstand the hard use that handrails in public places would suffer.

Mercantile Met Tech created a robust solution and worked with a lighting company called D W Windsor, to complete a purpose designed system.

The two companies have registered the illuminated handrail and balustrade due to its specification; the strength of the housing and the low repair requirements.

The system allows lighting to be adjusted to meet the needs of any particular moment, and can take into account ambient light and the volume of traffic.

Mercantile Met Tech illuminated handrails can be genuinely environmentally friendly and reduce carbon footprints as well as energy bills.

Mercantile Met Tech and D W Windsor are now running a joint venture supplying and fitting this product range with stocks of illuminated handrails, bump rails and balustrades available across the UK.
