A John Newton and Co product story
Edited by the Buildingtalk editorial team Feb 26, 2010

John Newton has been called in to provide a solution to a failed asphalt tanking problem at a listed farmhouse undergoing extensive refurbishment.

John Newton and Company supplied its Newton System 500 for the building located on the Kent/Sussex border.

The refurbishment at the large listed farmhouse incorporated a large new build basement area which had a crawl space to one area which was fully underpinned and new infill block retaining walls were constructed to form a high spec cinema room and small gym.

John Newton and Company's technical staff were confronted with a failure of an asphalt tanking system crudely applied to all areas of the newly constructed basement - except the floors.

The external drained cavity membrane was not installed by a professional waterproofing company and provided minimal protection - it was actually installed back to front.
