Jones of Oswestry's coloured anti-slip finishes

A Jones of Oswestry product story

Jones of Oswestry has introduced a colour swatch of slip-resistant finishes available as an option on its Suprasteel and Suprabloc access covers.

The swatch shows colour choices and technical data for the extended range of durable, high specification finishes.

Designed to highways performance criteria, they provide enhanced surface slip-resistance and a choice of visual finish on all sizes and duties of Jones's solid top or infill style access cover.

Made of thermoplastic with an integral textured surface of recycled glass, the material forms a rigid bond with the substrate to withstand typical weathering and wear and tear in external landscaping and carriageways.

As well as metal, the finishes are suitable for all asphalt materials and non-bituminous paving such as concrete, granite sets, blocks and cobbles.

The non-slip finishes can be specified and factory-applied on new Suprasteel solid top access covers.

Jones will also retrofit them to existing Suprasteel units or its recessed products - Suprabloc, Aquaslot and Arborslot - where the inlaid paving is compatible and requires enhancement of surface friction.

Under their duty of care, designers need to address the slip/skid hazards that may be posed by cover installations to operatives, pedestrians and road users, says Jones of Oswestry.

The company's non-slip finishes will help designers meet both aesthetic and slip resistance considerations in specifying safe, functional access covers within successful landscaping schemes.

Jones of Oswestry has long championed health and safety in the design of in-ground steelwork.

The company has led the way in devising product solutions to minimise slip differentials between different landscaping elements, risks of a trip posed by in-ground steelwork and trap hazards created by cover lifting keyholes and drainage slots.

Jones was the originator of the recessed access cover for paviour infill which addresses slip risks in hard landscaping by allowing continuity of paving materials with appropriate slip-resistant properties.

The company was also one of the first manufacturers to introduce cover lifting mechanisms to meet manual handling regulations.

These innovations have also been helping service providers to fulfil their legal obligations to provide inclusive access since 2004 when Phase 3 of the DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) was enforced.
