Dravo heat up Ikea
Dravo, the industrial heating division of Johnson and Starley have been specified to undertake the heating for Ikea.
In addition to their rolling programme of introducing new stores nationwide, Ikea have also been setting up a network of distribution centres, the latest and largest of which being located just off the A1 at Peterborough It has 1,000,000 ft² of floor area and racking height up to 70 ft, the storage capacity of these centres is colossal

Nine high velocity nozzle systems are used to cover the entire area with approximately 2 miles of primary ductwork, feeding the hundreds of individual nozzle outlets, many of which being concentrated in the vicinity of the 67 loading doors.
The modulating indirect gas fired Air Handling Units have varying outputs from 420kW up to 1100kW, they are controlled by the (BMS) buildings management system.
With a view to minimising gas consumption each unit contains a hot water coil.
This coil is designed to use heat from a wood burner that utilises the vast amount of waste produced in the palletising process, it therefore minimises the running costs of the already ultra-efficient Dravo plant.
