Country House refurbishment bank on Reno
boilers

Bank of three Reno boilers, manufactured by Johnson and Starley, has been utilised at a recently refurbished period country manor house.

A bank of three Reno boilers, manufactured by Johnson and Starley Limited, has been utilised as the main energy source to supply the heating and hot water requirements of a recently refurbished period country manor house The design of the new heating and hot water system for the property, which is located in the heart of the Warwickshire countryside, was undertaken by Sureway Heating Services; a regular user of Johnson and Starley equipment

The two storey building has six bedrooms and four bathrooms, plus cloakrooms.

At the time the property was purchased by its present owner the only energy source was an old atmospheric cast iron boiler while the distribution was still via large diameter, low efficiency pipework.

Due to the fact the client wanted to install high volume pressurised showers in all of the bathrooms, the contractor determined that even the incoming main was inadequate.

Sureway therefore recommended the installation of a break/holding tank from where water is pumped into two Johnson and Starley 210 litre unvented Aquastar hot water tanks.

Although these units incorporate immersion heaters, during the first stage of the changeover, the old boiler's output pipework was connected to the cylinders' indirect coils to provide domestic hot water.

Then the three Reno 31 heat only boilers were installed in the basement boiler room, zoned so that one feeds the radiators upstairs, one heats most of the ground floor, and the third splits its output between the Aquastars and the second downstairs heating zone.

This is a very prestigious job with all of the radiators being cast iron replicas imported from China and hand painted to match the decoration in each of the rooms.

Zoning the three boilers across the house offers the occupant maximum efficiency if the whole of the property is not occupied.

There is back up if one of the boilers should fail and there is even provision of employing the immersion heaters in the Aquastars for hot water if necessary when the third boiler is serviced.

Keith Hughes of Sureway Heating, recounts: "Sureway heating has been specifying Johnson and Starley's products since it first started trading more than 30 years ago".

"We have developed a good working relationship with the company based on the excellent customer service provided and it is reassuring to deal with a company that does what it says it is going to".

"When Johnson and Starley released the Reno range of high efficiency boilers they invited our comment".

"We looked very carefully at the Reno and what it had to offer - as we did at very many other manufacturers".

"We decided that Johnson and Starley had developed a boiler that met our needs as installers and service engineers, and which offered our customers a first class product".

"We felt we could specify the Reno for our customers with confidence knowing it would offer them good value for money, long life expectancy and excellent whole life costs".

The owner of the Warwickshire country house is now enjoying a warm and comfortable living environment with the kitchen and all of the luxury bathrooms being fully served with hot water.

Johnson and Starley was established in 1922 and for over 80 years has provided innovation to the UK heating industry.

As a manufacturer of 'Home Comfort Solutions' the company offers an extensive range of Part L compliant warm air heaters and ventilation products in addition to SEDBUK A -rated high efficiency condensing boilers.
