Reducing air leakage through the
building envelope

Johnson and Starley specialises in the design and production of a comprehensive selection of ventilation and heat recovery equipment where the installation of ductwork is not practical.

Advanced building materials and modern methods of construction are combining to greatly reduce air leakage through the building envelope Furthermore, the Decent Homes Standard means measures such as fitting double glazing are resulting in some refurbished homes suffering condensation for the first time and increasing the risk of damage to the building's structure

Damp and mould can also lead to an increase in the number of spores in the atmosphere whilst moist air also presents ideal conditions for dust mites which potentially are major irritants to those with respiratory conditions.

Johnson and Starley specialises in the design and production of a comprehensive selection of ventilation and heat recovery equipment where the installation of ductwork is not practical.

Indeed, for many applications extract fans are the only affordable means of ventilation.

For these situations Johnson and Starley offers its Dryflow product range.

This encompasses the A series axial fans, all of which feature self lubricating motors with automatic thermal cut off.

They also have dynamic crystal head humidistat sensors to offer optimal energy efficiency and can be wall, window or ceiling mounted.

The Dryflow C series switches to centrifugal fans and a spring loaded rather than gravity shutter.

As with the A series, the C models are applicable to kitchens, bathrooms, cloakrooms and other domestic spaces likely to suffer from damp air.

The Dryflow range is completed by the S series of slimline models which offer a number of options and are normally wall or ceiling mounted.

Johnson and Starley is also able to offer customers positive pressure ventilation.

Home 'N' Dry is a whole house positive pressure system which acts to introduce fresh filtered air into the dwelling through an inconspicuous diffuser mounted in the hall or landing ceiling.

While there is a wall mounted version available to suit flats located on intermediate floors, the Home 'N' Dry is normally sited in the loft, taking only around two hours to install.

The units consumes a minimal amount of power in providing a constant flow of tempered dry air that disperses throughout the property and encourages the moist air to dissipate through the tiny crevices in the building envelope.

Unquestionably the best energy efficiency is delivered by passive ventilation systems which utilise the stack or chimney effect and wind flow over a property to draw moist air out of a building.

The Johnson and Starley Passive Stack Ventilation System incorporates 'intelligent' grilles which open and close according to the humidity levels within each room.

This automatically adjusts the rate of ventilation to different parts of the dwelling and operates silently.

Not only does the system cost nothing to run, but its maintenance is also limited to occasional cleaning. Request a free brochure from Johnson and Starley ...
